Flexi-Chair Oka Office Chair BS9 review.
While FlexiSpot is best known for its standing desks, the latest of which we’ve reviewed here, the company also offers a range of seating solutions. From office chairs to gaming seats to desk exercise bikes(!), there’s a wide array of sitting options available. The latest chair by FlexiSpot is the Flexi-Chair BS9 which promises a 45-degree tilt for lounging, adjustable seat height, and “3D lumbar support.” This is the GameRevolution review.
Orange is the new black
At the time of writing, the Flexi-Chair BS9 is only available in the color orange. It’s an unusual choice, but I think it works well to stand out from a crowd of black office chairs. It makes for a nice accent piece in an office setup, though may clash with some color schemes. I imagine FlexiSpot will be introducing more colors as time goes on.
With the orange color out of the way, let’s dive into the BS9’s main features. FlexiSpot highlights the 45-degree tilt for lounging and I found it to be a generous enough amount of tilt for leaning back and relaxing. You won’t be using the BS9 as a bed replacement anytime soon, as can be the case with some gaming chairs, but the 45-degrees movement allows for leaning back a bit. There’s a spinning knob for adjusting the tightness of the tilt and a lever to lock it into place.
Go ahead, tilt!
Another highlighted feature is the adjustable seat height. The gas lift allows users to quickly adjust the Flexi-Chair to the required height. This is pretty much the standard on all decent-quality office chairs nowadays, so it’s good to see it here. If the chair is used by multiple people, they will appreciate the ability to quickly set the new seating position.
As for the “3D lumbar support,” which is another of the chair’s highlighted features, there is a prominent hump of memory foam which is well-positioned for back support. Both my partner and I found it to sit well against our lumbar and promote positive spine shape. Clearly FlexiSpot has done its research here.
Well-matched materials
In my testing, I found the 7 cm of foam padding very comfortable even after long workdays, and the flip-up armrests are great for tidying the chair away at the end of the day. Testing during hot summer days also made the breathable mesh stand out. The Flexi-Chair BS9 will be an especially good fit in warmer office spaces or gaming rooms.
If you can look past the orange color, the Flexi-Chair BS9 is a combination of solid parts that provide the expected functionality of a mid-range office chair. It’s sturdy and feels like it will stand the test of time.
Of course, with the Flexi-Chair BS9 being a FlexiSpot product, customers enjoy a 30-day guarantee. This allows buyers to “return any product for any reason within 30 days of purchase.”
A headrest is the only glaring missing feature of the Flexi-Chair BS9. With that said, many top-tier office chairs cut the headrest with the argument that it encourages bad posture so perhaps the omission here is easily justified.
Flexi-Chair Oka Office Chair BS9 Review: The final verdict
At ~$400 (£299.99) — though currently on offer for ~$300 (£219.99) and potentially featured in the upcoming sale from September 6-13 — the Flexi-Chair BS9 is priced alongside other mid-range seating solutions. The orange color, breathable mesh back, well-placed lumbar support, and generous amount of padding help to make it stand out from the crowd. However, the lack of a headrest may be a dealbreaker for some.
The Flexi-Chair BS9 is currently only available through the FlexiSpot UK website. Here’s hoping it is made available on the US store soon so that more people can consider it for their next office chair upgrade!
