Logitech Pro X Wireless Review: ‘Top-tier gaming headset goes wireless’

The premium wireless gaming headset scene has become a battleground filled with fantastic products. From a consumer’s perspective, this intensely competitive environment is great as it helps push prices down while encouraging innovation. It’s a great time to be looking for a new wireless headset and Logitech could well have the answer with the Pro X Wireless.

Eternally premium

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is a proverb that many companies struggle to embrace. Making changes without reason can quickly turn a good product into a bad product. Thankfully, with this new gaming headset, Logitech has taken the Pro X and, much like the name, slapped wireless on it.

This means that users get the same top-tier sound quality, super-solid construction, and stylish appearance. Only this time there’s no cable dangling down, with Logitech using its “LIGHTSPEED” 2.4 GHz low latency connection. It works flawlessly, as is the case with the many other LIGHTSPEED-supported products I’ve used, but the added wirelessness does come at a premium price.

For higher-end products, it’s important users get a great first impression. Logitech delivers here, with the headset seated well inside of the stealthy black box. In addition to the headset, there’s the wireless dongle, detachable microphone, USB-C cable, replacement earpads, and a carrying bag.

It’s a nice bundle of goodies included with the headset. A detachable mic is always great to see and this modularity allows the microphone to be upgraded down the line to the Blue Icepop (review coming soon). The additional earpads are a highlight, too, allowing users to swap out the stock leatherette foam earpads for velour.

Those worried about the change in sound from swapping earpads shouldn’t be concerned, as installing the Logitech G Hub software allows for fine-tuning of the sound signature with both a basic (Bass and Treble) and advanced (10-band) EQ. There’s virtual surround sound, too, which works surprisingly well. I say “surprisingly” because I’m not usually a fan of VSS. While I’ll be sticking to stereo, the option is there and I’m sure many gamers will like it.

Software boost

The Logitech G Hub application is also used to tune microphone input gain and output level. In addition to this, users can enable “Blue Vo!ce.” This provides some extra tweaks to the microphone sound that really help to make it shine. There’s a high-pass filter, noise reduction, expander/gate, de-esser, compressor, limiter, and EQ for lows, mids, and highs.

Without “Blue Vo!ce,” the mic is fine, but it can be vastly improved by the enhancements found in this app. Unfortunately for console users, this app isn’t available, so you’ll just be using the stock sound. PC users, however, should absolutely install the G Hub software for the best audio experience.

Now with LIGHTSPEED

As mentioned above, the new feature that makes the Logitech Pro X Wireless unique is the LIGHTSPEED implementation. As I’ve seen with other LIGHTSPEED products, the 2.4 GHz connection remains flawless. It’s super fast and dependable for even the most intense gaming sessions.

By default, the headset turns off after 30 minutes without using it, however this can be reduced down to as low as one minute in software. It’s good to see a tunable sleep mode, but users don’t have to be too anxious about battery life as this Pro X Wireless hits between 16-18 hours in my experience. When it’s running low, the USB-C cable is a modern, dependable connection.

Aside from a mushy mute button that ejects a little too slowly, perhaps by design, the only other drawback of the Logitech Pro X Wireless is the price premium for the LIGHTSPEED tech. At $199.99, this headset is asking quite a lot for that bonus wireless functionality.

Logitech Pro X Wireless Review: The final verdict

The Logitech Pro X Wireless is a fantastic sounding headset that checks the boxes in comfort and build quality, just like the wired did before it. The mic quality is genuinely enhanced by Blue Vo!ce and I’m eager to see where that software goes next.

For $199.99, however, potential buyers will want to think carefully about whether to invest in this headset or a competitor from the likes of SteelSeries, HyperX, Razer, EPOS, and more. There’s a fierce battle being fought right now, so shop around and see what’s best for you.

With that said, the Logitech Pro X Wireless has my favorite combination of sound, comfort, and build quality, and the wireless functionality is the cherry on top.
