XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro Projector Review

XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro Projector Review

XGIMI has become well-known in the portable projector market for its affordable products that still manage to deliver must-have modern features, output a high-quality image, and feel impressively well-built. With the MoGo 2 Pro, XGIMI is offering a brighter projection, more accurate colors, impressive sound, and new auto-keystone and auto-focus tech for a more seamless experience. Here is my review of the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro for movies, TV shows, and gaming.

Getting set up

Inside the XGIMI MoGo 2 box, you will find the projector itself, a power cable, remote control, and manual to help you get started.

Setting up the projector is super simple, as there’s a single power button that you hold in, before pairing the controller and signing into a Google account. From there, it’s your typical Android TV 11 experience.

Netflix workaround

The elephant in the room with Android projectors is the difficulty in getting Netflix to work. In the past, I’ve used an Amazon Fire TV Stick to solve this, but XGIMI has noted that the “Desktopmanager” app on the Play Store will allow Netflix to boot up without issue. While it’s an extra step, it works great and bypasses the need to carry a streaming stick around with you.

Other apps like Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube install effortlessly and, despite the projector outputting a native 1080p image, it can downscale a 4K source. Often, this will mean taking advantage of the higher bit rate that streaming services allow for 4K streaming, so there is a worthwhile difference, especially on YouTube.

Let’s play

The MoGo 2 Pro also worked well with my PS5. Though you do have to choose between a 4K non-HDR or 1080p HDR output, there were no glaring latency issues, meaning casual gaming is perfectly enjoyable.

If you decide to move the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro to a different spot in the room, you’ll see firsthand the Intelligent Screen Adaption 2.0 kicking in. The projector will automatically, and quickly, carry out auto-keystone correction and tune the auto-focus. With ISA 2, the image won’t be interrupted, meaning content will continue to be shown and play as the image adjusts. This makes for a super seamless experience and limited frustration.

Light it up

Visually, the 1080p image was nice and sharp on my 100” screen and colors looked great. XGIMI has clearly been working on its out-of-the-box color settings which is a nice touch.

With a peak brightness of 400 ISO lumens, this projector is best used in a darker environment for maximum detail. With that said, I was still able to comfortably enjoy content during the daytime, so it will still work in a pinch.

Sounds good to me

It’s the projector’s audio that took me by the biggest surprise. The tiny MoGo 2 Pro packs two 8 W speakers, which deliver bigger-than-you-expect sound.

Curiously, XGIMI has opted to forgo an internal battery within the MoGo 2 series. That means the MoGo 2 Pro needs to be consistently plugged into either the wall or a power bank. The MoGo 2 Pro can be powered using supported power banks with a 65 W or more output, which is pretty handy.

Final Verdict

At $599, the XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro is definitely worth considering by those who will appreciate the extra brightness, better sound quality, enhanced visuals, and ability to power the unit through a power bank. The Intelligent Screen Adaptation 2.0 is impressive, too.

For those who want to set up and go, without breaking the bank on something with a higher brightness output, the MoGo 2 Pro could well be for you.

Positives and Negatives

  • Image is very crisp, even at larger screen sizes.
  • Out-of-the-box colors are great.
  • Works well with game consoles with low enough latency.
  • Intelligent Screen Adaption 2.0 is great.
  • Can be powered using battery banks.
  • Netflix requires a third-party workaround.
  • No internal battery.
