RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger Review

RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger Review

RedMagic, a brand best known for its impressive line of gaming phones, is going all out with a powerful charger. In addition to charging phones at breakneck speed, this futuristic-looking charger can also go toe-to-toe with superfast laptop chargers, making for a stylish and capable unit. However, it’s not all good news, as you’ll soon discover in my full RedMagic DAO 150 GAN charger review.

Futuristic

The unboxing experience is certainly unique, as I’ve never seen a charger like it before. Its transparent housing and inclusion of a display set it far apart from even high-end chargers that I’ve used in the past. It looks like it was plucked straight out of a sci-fi movie and I’m here for it.

Of course it has RGB

When it’s plugged in, the RGB lighting comes to life. This complements the transparent materials, making for a very eye-catching display in any dimly lit environment. I’m not quite convinced that a charger necessarily needs RGB lighting, but if that’s what you’re looking for, RedMagic is happy to oblige.

Those looking to customize the lighting can turn to the dedicated phone app, which works well enough. While it’s funny to me that we have an app for a charger, this is 2024 and I suppose most things are now expected to have their own application.

Let’s charge

RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger Review

The main purpose of the DAO 150W GAN Charger is to, well, charge devices. When it comes to the specs, RedMagic is advertising DC:150W, 2x USB-C: 140W, and USB-A: 30W. That means it’s equipped to handle both the latest and older tech. Honestly, it’s great to see USB-A available, as while many of my devices now use USB-C cables, I still have older tech that relies on USB-A. This really is one charger to rule them all, which it very well should be given the price tag.

Getting hot in here

RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger Review

In use, the DAO 150W GAN Charger delivers an expected level of performance, rapidly charging all of the devices I tested. With that said, I am a little concerned about how warm the casing gets, but this is a common concern with these types of chargers. While nothing bad occurred during charging sessions, I’d personally keep an eye on it when using it to charge at higher speeds.

Final Verdict

With an RRP of $229, the RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger is way up there when it comes to this type of product. However, the addition of the screen, RGB lighting, customization, and unique style may draw the eye of potential buyers. If the price is too steep but you like the look of this beast, I’d say waiting for a sale is a solid option, as RedMagic frequently slashes prices.

Though the price is high, I’ve enjoyed using the RedMagic DAO 150W GAN Charger in all of its futuristic glory. I’d just be wary of the amount of heat outputted.
