Remember Desert Bus? We wouldn't blame you if you didn't, though I should make you aware of Desert Bus for Hope, a Child's Play charity that raised upwards of $680,000 in its last incarnation.
Desert Bus is infamous for being a masochistic mini-game from Penn & Teller's Smoke and Mirrors released on Sega CD in 1995, in which you drive a bus from Tuscon, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada for about eight hours, never going beyond 45 miles per hour or visiting any resting areas.
As such, Penn Jillette has announced on his podcast, Penn's Sunday School (as transcribed by Gamasutra), that he is indeed working on a sequel to Desert Bus, specifically introducing virtual reality and including Gearbox Studios:
I'm working with Randy Pitchford, and we're going to do—and this is a big, big deal—we're going to do a new Desert Bus and it's going to be just for charities, so charities can use it to raise money.
Beyond that, he is creating a bundle of games, not just this sequel to Desert Bus, and that this bundle will "probably be for the Oculus Rift and PlayStation VR."
I'm not sure how excited I can be about this sequel. Maybe numbingly excited. But I guess that's what it's going for.
