The stealth-action indie game Deadbolt will officially be coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, courtesy of developer Hopoo Games and Code Mystics. It was originally released on the PC back in 2016.
From the developers of the roguelike Risk of Rain comes Deadbolt, a game where players assume the role of a reaper whose job it is to kill the undead. The reaper will have access to an impressive arsenal of projectile weapons like pistols to shotguns and even physical weapons like knives or scythes.
However, players are not unstoppable killing machines as they can only take one single hit from enemies before succumbing to death themselves. Every mission is also unique and caters to each player’s playstyle, be they charging in with loud Semi-Auto Shotguns blazing or silently killing their enemies by stealth using suppressed silent weapons.
Every set of levels are based on the type of undead enemies that players will be facing. The undead hordes making up the enemies consists of over 35 enemy types from over four categories including Zombies, Vampires, Dredged, and Demons.
After completing levels, players are awarded souls as currency to purchase more weapons. When their equipped weapons are not sufficient, players will need to make use of anything and everything they can scavenge from the environment. Players can also explore the lore of the game through randomly acquired cassette tapes obtained when killing certain enemies, containing the personal stories of the Reaper’s victims.
Deadbolt will be releasing on both the PS4 and the PS Vita with cross-buy support on February 20, 2018.
Hopoo Games was initially comprised of two students and came into the limelight when it developed Risk of Rain for the PC in 2013. It started as a student project which was then funded through a Kickstarter campaign. Risk of Rain is a Metroidvania game with roguelike elements and was ported to the PS4 and PS Vita in 2016.
