Summer 2018 Games, guacamelee 2 release date

Guacamelee 2 Release Date Revealed

Ever since its announcement at Paris Games Week last October, developer DrinkBox Studios has been quiet about their next game, Guacamelee 2. Today, after months of silence, DrinkBox has revealed the Guacamelee 2 release date. It will launch digitally on PS4 and PC on August 21 for $19.99 (and $15.99 for PlayStation Plus members who pre-order).

Outside of a few brief clips on DrinkBox’s Twitter page, the only substantial recent update for the game the was on July 20 on its Steam page. They revealed that the game was “almost finished” and that they had been “doing a LOT of playtesting lately.” Other than that news, the Guacamelee 2 release date reveal, and the PSX demo from last December, DrinkBox has kept the game close to its chest.

They also have not talked about bringing the game to any other platforms outside of the PS4 and PC. However, the original Guacamelee launched in April 2013 on PS3 and Vita, made its way to the PC a few months later, then came to the Wii U, Xbox One, PS4, and Xbox 360 in July 2014 in the form of its Super Turbo Championship Edition. It eventually came to almost every platform under the sun after its brief PlayStation exclusivity, which makes a Guacamelee 2 Switch or Xbox One port entirely possible somewhere down the line.

Guacamelee 2 once again stars Juan Aguacate in a new Metroidvania-style adventure in a world inspired by Mexican culture. The biggest addition is the drop-in four-player campaign co-op, where three other people can drop straight into the game as they please. It will also have a new upgrade system that has the player meeting new “trainers” to learn new abilities.

This is also only the second sequel that DrinkBox has ever made. Their first game, Tales from Space: About a Blob had a sequel for the Vita’s launch, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack. Then they moved onto the original Guacamelee and Severed soon after.
