Destiny 2 developer Bungie announced today that they will be bringing the game’s lore into book form. The books will collect the franchise’s worldbuilding Grimoire into an anthology series of books covering both Destiny and Destiny 2. The first of these will be titled Dark Mirror.
On their pre-order page for the first volume, Bungie describes the books and grimoire:
“Until now, the myths, mysteries, and machinations of the Destiny universe were found hidden throughout the worlds – enticing threads that hinted at a greater tapestry. The Destiny Grimoire Anthology weaves tales from multiple sources together for the first time, casting new light on Destiny’s most legendary heroes, infamous villains, and their greatest moments of triumph and tragedy.”
They also add that each volume of the series will intend “to illuminate a facet of the world, and the complete anthology will confirm and challenge players’ thoughts and assumptions on what it means to be a Guardian”. This could mean that beyond putting the Grimoire into a series of physical books, they could be adding new information. What this new information is up to debate currently, but hopefully it will indeed illuminate the Destiny universe.
You can pre-order the first book of the anthology for $24.99 and it will be released in the Fall of 2018. In addition to this, the books will be produced in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment. You will also get a code for an in-game Destiny 2 emblem called “Codex Doctrinae” with the book. The first volume will be 128 pages, be in a hardcover format and will include brand-new art just for the book. There is, however, no news on how many books will be in the anthology.
But what do you think? Are you going to add this to your bookshelves? Or are you content with just reading the in-game Grimoire? Sound off in the comments below!
