Dan Smith from Killer7

Killer7 Character Trailer Showcases the Smiths and 60 fps Action

A new trailer for the Killer7 remaster was released today. Goichi Suda, better known as Suda51, directed the original 2005 first-person shooter and adventure game hybrid for the GameCube and PS2. This new trailer re-introduces several members of killer7, and 60 fps gameplay. The game is coming to PC later this year.

Killer7 has players step into the role of Harman Smith, a man who becomes different members of the elite assassins known as “killer7.” Today’s trailer focused on three of these assassins: Garcian, Dan, and Kevin Smith as they showed off their special abilities and playstyles. The updated 60 fps framerate is the highlight of the trailer. The original game had a 30 fps cap, which some criticized the original game for. Killer7 is coming to Steam at some time this year. Here’s today’s trailer.

As the first Suda51 directed game released in North America, Killer7 introduced westerners to his eccentricities. A cult following grew around Suda51 and Killer7 after the game’s divisive reception at the hands of critics. We didn’t like the game much back in 2005, saying, “as a piece of art, it’s got a lot of things going for it and will almost certainly find a cult audience. (…) We admire the effort and love the style, but we expect our video games to be first and foremost good games, not good art. That’s a bonus, not a foundation.”

Suda51 went on to work on the No More Heroes series, Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw, Killer is Dead, and Let It Die. He is currently directing Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes for the Nintendo Switch. We had the opportunity to sit down with him at PAX West and chat about his career. Hopefully this upcoming PC release will polish a few edges off the game and introduce it to a new generation.
