Castlevania Requiem

Castlevania Requiem Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood Collection Rated for PS4

The ESRB has rated Castlevania Requiem Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood for PS4. This follows fthe news that a Japanese and English translation of the classic game collection has been rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea.

According to the ESRB ratingCastlevania Requiem is a collection of Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood. It has been awarded a Teen rating, with “Blood and Gore, Partial Nudity, [and] violence.” The full listing for Requiem can be read below:

“This is collection of two action platformers in which players assume the role of a vampire hunter battling Dracula and other creatures. From a side-scrolling perspective, players traverse Dracula’s castle to kill fantastical enemies (e.g., zombies, demons, minotaurs). Characters use whips, swords, axes, and magic to defeat enemies. Pixelated blood is depicted when players’ character and creatures are killed; some attacks result in decapitation and dismemberment of creatures, including a boss character that loses its body parts and entrails. As players progress, they may encounter female creatures (e.g., harpies, medusa) that have exposed buttocks and are depicted topless, though there are no discernible details (i.e., no nipples).”

Castlevania Symphony of the Night originally released on PlayStation One back in 1997. It went on to be widely regarded as one of the finest entries into the long-running franchise. Despite its reception, however, the game has been difficult to get hold of. Original Western copies of the game consistently go for upwards of $100 on eBay. The game is seen as something of a collector’s item and has only been re-released once before.

Castlevania Rondo of Blood, meanwhile, originally released on the PC Engine in Japan way back in 1993. It was later ported to the SNES as Castlevania Dracula X and released worldwide by 1996. Symphony of the Night acts as a sequel to Rondo of Blood. If Castlevania Requiem does see release, it won’t be the first time Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood have been part of a collection. As part of the 2008 PSP remake of Rondo of Blood (Castlevania The Dracula X Chronicles), players could unlock a port of Symphony of the Night.
