Layton’s Mystery Journey Switch release date announced

Nintendo Switch owners in the West will finally be getting entry into the Professor Layton series. Level-5 recently announced that Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy – Deluxe Edition for Switch will arrive in the US and Europe on November 8.

Originally launched on Nintendo 3DS in 2017, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy marks the first game in the series to that doesn’t star the original Professor Layton. Instead, players take on the role of his daughter Katrielle who has set up her own detective agency in the hopes of eventually finding her missing father.

The game has actually been out for Nintendo Switch in Japan since August of last year. However, it’s only arriving on the system in the West now.

The Nintendo Switch “Deluxe Edition” of the game brings additional features not in the 3DS original. An overview of it over at Nintendo’s website states that the game will come with more than 40 brand-new puzzles, and that’s on top of modifying some of the original puzzles from the Nintendo Switch version. By solving these new puzzles and more, players will also get to unlock over 50 new outfits.

In addition to all this, the Switch version will also come with all previously released DLC from the 3DS version. Players will not need to unlock these, as they will be available right from the get-go.

Of course, the move to Nintendo Switch brings with it a number of technical upgrades as well. Level-5 has given the game a high-definition overhaul to better match the Switch. Additionally, the larger Switch screen allows for more information to be displayed—the game’s HUD will now display key information for each puzzle on-screen.

Based on all this, the Nintendo Switch version of Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy looks to be a great way for those who played the 3DS original as well as newcomers to experience the game. After all, the port should bring more than enough new bells and whistles for veterans, while the new protagonist should serve as a great starting point for new fans without having to catch up with previous games.
