The Witcher: Monster Slayer is the Pokemon Go of killing demons

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be bringing the terrifying monsters of Slavic folklore to your phone in the most surprising of ways — this upcoming game from CD Projekt Red’s Spokko will be an AR game similar to Pokemon Go and Harry Potter: Wizard’s Unite.

If you are somehow unfamiliar with The Witcher, this series of games (based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski) tells the tale of the titular Witcher known as Geralt of Rivia. A Witcher is a mutated man blessed with enhanced strength and reflexes, created through a series of arcane rituals to serve as a hunter of monsters. Now, the world of The Witcher is going to be coming soon to mobile devices (via Ryan Brown) in an augmented reality game similar to Pokemon Go, letting players go out into the world and defeat some scary monsters in their own backyard.

“Foul creatures roam the vast lands of the Continent — and it falls to those known as witchers to hunt them down,” read the game’s official website. “Set long before the time of Geralt of Rivia, The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an augmented-reality exploration game that challenges you to become an elite monster hunter. See the world around you transformed into the dark fantasy realm of The Witcher, and explore once-familiar locations now infested with dangerous beasts as you start on the path as a professional monster slayer.”

The Witcher: Monster Slayer hand

The Witcher: Monster Slayer puts a 3D avatar onto a real-world map and lets you roam around in search of monsters and quests. Prior to battle, you’ll have to do just as Geralt would do: prepare. You’ll brew magical potions and oils, craft devious devices like bombs, and carefully prepare your equipment ahead of a fight. Once in battle, you’ll make use of first-person RPG combat to tackle the bad guys. Defeat them, and you’ll secure an awesome trophy from the monster to call your own.

As you might expect, The Witcher: Monster Slayer will also be a role-playing game with everything that entails. You’ll get to experience story-driven quests as you meet the weird and wonderful people from all over the Continent.

No release date or price has been announced for this game, but it’s likely to be a free-to-play title with microtransactions. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing more about this game sooner rather than later since it’s listed as “coming soon.” For now, you can check out The Witcher: Monster Slayer trailer and its official website to get hyped up for a unique spin on augmented reality games.
