Earlier this week, a mod was uploaded that removed the pride flags in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC. That mod was soon deleted from several sites, but NexusMods went one step further and banned the modder’s account too. That move to ban the account of the modder who uploaded the Spider-Man Remastered mod has caused controversy throughout the community as some of them agree with the action and some of them do not.
NexusMods responds to the “silly drama”
The mod uploaded for Spider-Man Remastered replaced all of the Pride flags in the game with the USA flag texture. NexusMods removed the mod as it violated their policy for inclusivity and diversity: “If we think someone is uploading a mod on our site with the intent to deliberately be against inclusivity and/or diversity then we will take action against it.” The mod was uploaded using a “sock puppet” account, a dummy account to hide the modder’s true identity. Unfortunately for them, that didn’t work; NexusMods identified the modder and promptly banned both the sock puppet account and the modder’s main account due to what they perceived to be an attempt at trolling. Site users who didn’t agree with the policy have also been encouraged to “delete your account… and move on.”
The account ban for the person who uploaded the Spider-Man Remastered mod has caused controversy in the modding community. There are plenty of people who support NexusMods’ decision, as the mod was perceived to be “anti-gay” and was uploaded “to a platform which explicitly prohibits such content”. There are others who feel like the mod should have stayed because it was an optional download for a single-player game that didn’t affect anybody but the user. Regardless, the account ban and removal of the mod are both permanent and NexusMods will be moving on too.
In other news, a new cryptic teaser has players believing a new Dune game will be revealed soon. Elsewhere, the PGA Tour 2K23 release date, Deluxe Edition, and Tiger Woods cover art has been revealed.
