Microsoft Invests Over $100 Million in Wearable Tech

Earlier this month, Sony announced that it would be jumping feet first into the virtual reality realm with its own VR headset, Project Morpheus. Naturally, this spawned all sorts of speculation as to what Microsoft may be developing behind the scenes in an effort to compete with the PlayStation-centric headset as well as Oculus Rift.

According to Osterhout Design Group (ODG) founder Ralph Osterhout, the Big M has invested a hefty chunk of change into ODG's wearable computing technology. In fact, TechCrunch reports that Microsoft "has paid up to $150 million to buy IP assets related to augmented reality, head-borne computers, and related items."

Microsoft's newly appointed head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that the company has been looking into VR, so this investment sure sounds like a logical move. Hopefully we'll hear more about the Big M's plans for virtual reality in the near future.
