More than several Baldur’s Gate 3 evil companions exist throughout the game. And you’ll find a fair number of them before you even step foot in Emerald Grove near the beginning of Act 1. That said, the party members in BG3 don’t have a particular alignment, which makes sense as D&D 5th Edition does away with alignment altogether. However, companions do express approval and disapproval with certain actions you take, which exposes whether they lean toward more on the good or bad side of things. Here’s a quick list of evil companions you should take if you’re running an evil playthrough.
Best Baldur’s Gate 3 evil companions list
The following is a breakdown of evil companions in BG3:
- Astarion – If it’s not already clear by the fangs that he has, Astarion is a vampire and leans towards the chaotic neutral/evil side.
- Shadowheart – While she’s not an outwardly evil person, she does worship Shar, a deity known in Faerun to be classically Neutral Evil in alignment.
- Lae’zel – While she would see herself as lawful good in the eyes of the githyanki, many would find her and her race to be lawful evil.
- Minthara – While you try to find the druid Halsin, you need to deal with a goblin camp on the west side of the map in Act 1. One of the goblin leaders is Minthara, and if you side with this believer in the Absolute, she can become a companion.
The other choices for companions, including Gale, Karlach, Wyll, Minsc, and Jaheira, tend to lean toward the neutral and good alignments. And you’ll probably piss them off enough in an evil playthrough that they will either leave your party outright and not want to join in the first place.
Either way, playing an Evil playthrough will make it generally easier for your party to access the vast array of Illithid powers. Of course, this assumes that you have no problems with the mind flayer tadpole claiming more of your character’s brain.
