Analysis of PS5 Slim Shows It’s Not Much Slimmer Than the OG Model

The PlayStation 5 is quite a beastly machine in terms of its size, so the slim model will offer a more cut-down version of the console. However, despite it being smaller, the PS5 Slim does not appear to be as svelte as many would imagine.

It’s still smaller, though

According to a video analysis from Dave2D (as spotted by Eurogamer), the slimmer version of the PS5 is only slightly smaller than its heftier cousin.

While the overall video shows off some of the neat features of the slim model, such as the easily removable hard drive, when placed next to the OG system, there’s not a huge amount of difference in size.

The PS5 Slim is, of course, smaller, but it looks to be just a fraction of the current system’s height, which you can see when the YouTube host puts them side-by-side, shown around the 3:50 mark in the video above.

In terms of the actual dimensions, the PlayStation 5 Slim is 358 x 96 x 216 mm and 358 x 80 x 216 mm for the regular and Digital Edition of each console, respectively. Compare that to the OG machine, which comes in at 390 x 104 x 260 mm and slightly less for the Digital Edition, and there’s not a lot between them.

In any case, it is still smaller, but considering the original model is already quite massive, the PS5 Slim still doesn’t exactly look noticeably sleek.

For US gamers, the new model is expected to be released sometime this month, with it then rolling out to places like the UK sometime after.
