Alan Wake 2 got a big trailer at the PlayStation Showcase that showed more off of the survival horror sequel. Remedy Entertainment revealed more information after and noted that there will only be a Alan Wake 2 digital version and no physical copy.
Why is Alan Wake 2 digital only?
Remedy explained more on the game’s FAQ. One of the reasons is because “a large number” of players have shifted to digital-only libraries, according to Remedy. The team also said it didn’t want to ship a disc that would require a download. However, making it a digital-only game has meant that the studio can sell the title at $59.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and $49.99 on PC.
This comes at a time when many publishers are starting to embrace the new $69.99 standard as the baseline price for a big-budget video game. Also, according to GamesIndustry.biz, 94% of game sales in 2022 were digital, which gives credence to Remedy’s claim that many are favoring digital titles.
THQ Nordic stepped in and offered to do a physical version of Alan Wake 2, as it distributed the first game on PC and would “love to go at it again.” Remedy did not reply back, and noted on the FAQ that there are no current plans for a disc version.
