FFXIV Stormblood Patch 4.2 Main Quest Guide: Where to Start, How Many Quests, More

Square Enix has released patch 4.2 “Rise of a New Sun”, and with it comes some new FFXIV Stormblood main quests for players to jump into and enjoy. Whether you’ve been subscribed since 4.1 or haven’t touched the game since it can be easy to forget where the last main story quests left off.

That’s where we come in. Continuing on from the end of patch 4.1 and that crazy instanced battle, patch 4.2 kicks off with a much more calm and lighthearted approach. For the patch 4.2 FFXIV Stormblood main quests, you, of course, have to have a level 70 Disciple of War or Magic, but we also recommend being at least item level 300 if possible. Let’s get started on where to start the new story quests.

Where to Start FFXIV Main Quest for Patch 4.2 Rise of a New Sun

Picking up right where you left off, starting the new FFXIV main story quest called “Tidings from the East” will require you to have finished “Return of the Bull.” If you’ve already done that, you can find the new patch 4.2 quest here:

  • Teleport to Rhalgr’s Reach
  • Speak with Lyse at X: 14.6, Y: 9.4 to begin “Tidings from the East”

Tidings from the East is but the first of several new FFXIV main quests in patch 4.2 Rise of a New Sun. Per usual, you will find a total of eight main story quests to complete in this new patch. This is no different than before, however, there isn’t a dungeon required to complete these new story quests.

How Many Instances and Dungeons in FFXIV Main Quests for Patch 4.2 Rise of a New Sun

Unlike patch 4.1, there is no new dungeon associated specifically with the new FFXIV main quests in patch 4.2 Rise of a New Sun. Instead, you will find two instanced battles for you to complete during the eight new main story quests. These instanced battles are rather easy, especially compared to the final one in patch 4.1, but we still recommend having at least an item level of 300.

Getting 300 or higher is even easier now with the removal of tomestones of verity. Even though there is no new dungeon during the new FFXIV Stormblood main quests in patch 4.2 Rise of a New Sun, there is a new side quest dungeon that can’t be unlocked without progressing the story. At a certain point around halfway through the new quests, you’ll unlock a new side quest for Soroban that will open up the new optional dungeon: Hells’ Lid.
