Best Racing Games Of 2018 So Far: TT Isle of Man: Ride On The Edge

Speaking of bike racing, this is a fascinating counterpoint to the previous entry. The epic 13-mile Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit has become a staple of sim racing series like Gran Turismo and Project CARS. But what about the 37-mile Snaefell Mountain road course, home of the legendary Isle of Man TT race? Until now, it has been largely underrepresented in mainstream gaming. Kylotunn took on the gargantuan task of bringing this epic track to life, with every hill and hedgerow represented admirably well. And as an alternative to titles like MotoGP 18, the unique selling point of racing on the longest and most dangerous circuit in the world is a big reason to check this title out.

Best Racing Games Of 2018 So Far: Wreckfest

There’s definitely been a common theme of car-based destruction on this list. And with Wreckfest we have arguably the best game of the lot in terms of visceral carnage and thrills. Developed by Bugbear Entertainment – the former minds behind the FlatOut games – Wreckfest has sat quietly in early access for many years before finally getting a full release earlier this year. And all that time has been spent wisely. The heavy car physics coupled with spectacular levels of damage and deformation makes every smash and punt feel so satisfying. And a great variety of vehicles and gameplay modes, particularly online multiplayer, give Wreckfest a huge amount of content. Fire up this game and smash it up – you won’t regret it.

Best Racing Games Of 2018 So Far: The Crew 2

You didn’t think we’d forgotten about this one, did you?

Arguably the biggest racing game release of the year so far, The Crew 2 successfully builds on the promising first Crew game. A far more vibrant presentation and a map packed full of a lot more life and energy are big improvements. Additionally, the ability to switch from cars to trucks to bikes to World War 2 aircraft is a great addition to the formula. There’s something gleefully satisfying about ramping a pickup truck into the air and transforming into a Spitfire aircraft mid-jump, then switching into a Porsche 911 in mid-air and plunging back to the earth to literally hit the ground running. And it’s that fresh sense of joy de vivre that marks The Crew 2 as a big step forward from the first game.
