Yakuza Kiwami 2 is set to tear up PS4’s worldwide on August 28. As part of Sega’s seeming mission to release every Yakuza title on the PS4, Yakuza Kiwami 2 is the latest remake of everyone’s favorite open-world Yakuza franchise to come to the West. While PS4 players will be hitting karaoke bars, arcades and literally hitting thugs very soon, there is a question resting on everyone’s lips. Will we see a Yakuza Kiwami 2 Switch, Xbox One or PC version?
PlayStation owners are in for a treat with Yakuza Kiwami 2. Our five-star review testament to just how good the game is. Indeed, we explained that it is perfect for those looking for an escape from the “grimdark AAA series” we keep playing “year after year.” I mean, who doesn’t want to spend some time in the batting cages with Kiryu? It’s perfectly understandable that Switch, Xbox One, and PC owners might look on with jealousy. Is Yakuza Kiwami 2 coming out on Xbox One, Switch or PC? The answer, I’m afraid, is a little complicated.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 PC, Switch or Xbox One: Will the Game Release on Other Platforms?
Sega’s Yakuza series thus far hasn’t graced the Xbox One or Switch. Indeed, Daisuke Sato (series producer) had some pretty disappointing words to say on any potential Yakuza Switch port. “When it comes to Switch, I am convinced that it would not be the ideal platform on which to develop Yakuza games.” The news, however, was better for Xbox One owners. Sato described the Xbox as “an option.” Despite this, no official word on any Yakuza ports for Xbox One has been said. Perhaps we’ll see Yakuza Kiwami 2 Xbox One some day.
Yakuza Kiwami 2 PC is a different story. Both Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami have released on the platform. Seemingly, a PC release date for Yakuza Kiwami 2 can’t be too far off. There has been no official word from Sega, however. Perhaps if we all pray and wish hard enough, our dreams will come true.
