How to Kick Down Doors in Red Dead Redemption 2

As outlaws in the Wild West, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there’s a way for the Van der Linde gang to kick down doors in Red Dead Redemption 2. Whether it’s to chase down a foe, or because you’re just looking to intimidate whoever is holed up in their own home, there’s a way to do it. Here’s our guide on how to do so.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Kick Down Doors Guide – How to do it

There doesn’t seem to be an indication of how to do this in the lengthy tutorial at the beginning of the game, but one Reddit user – serocsband – took to the game’s subreddit to ask how it was possible.

The one reply that serocsband received, from The_Lord_Bauer, revealed that it wasn’t difficult to do. Players simply have to walk up to a door and hit the melee button on their controller. On the PS4 gamepad, you’ll want to hit the circle button, and for the Xbox One controller, you’ll need to mash the “B” button. Context, though, is king.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Kick Down Doors Guide – Why Would I Need This?

It could well be that you’re chasing an enemy – whether in a mission or just for laughs – and they find a building to hide out in. You can approach the door and open it like a normal human being, but where’s the fun in that? It’s not often that you have the opportunity to kick down a door, so why not take the chance to do so?

The other thing you could really need it for is if you’re running from the law yourself. Coming across an unoccupied building could be the difference between escaping or being caught. Rather than trying to open a door normally, just kicking one down and hiding may be all you need to evade those pesky Pinkertons. It’s a handy tool to have in a pinch.
