The Red Dead Redemption 2 counter melee move is one you’ll want to familiarize yourself with in case you come to blows with an opponent. Fighting in Red Dead 2 isn’t all about firefights, so here’s how to perform a move that will help you win fistfights.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Counter Melee – How to Execute
The counter melee move is one that you can probably pick up as you learn the controls in Red Dead 2, but some players are still struggling to master it. One Reddit user took to the Red Dead Redemption subreddit to ask how it was possible to execute the move as they couldn’t work out how to do it.
Luckily, the first reply the Redditor received told them precisely what to do. As your opponent swings a fist at you, tap the “Square” button on your PS4 controller, or “X” button on your Xbox One gamepad, to dodge the incoming attack. From here, immediately press the “Circle” or “B” button to perform a counter move that should knock them backward.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Counter Melee – Why is it Useful?
This move is useful in that it allows you to get the upper hand in fistfights. Of course, it can be used for a bit of showboating, too, but its main aim is to prevent you from getting hit and then hitting back immediately once you’ve dodged their attack.
If you perform it correctly, you can land a few more blows after your initial hit, too, and potentially end a fight there and then. You probably won’t have the knack for performing this move straight away, but you’ll run into your fair share of physical bouts throughout Red Dead 2’s lengthy campaign. This will give plenty of time to hone your skills and become a true master of the counter melee move.
