In Red Dead Redemption 2 Mrs. Downes is the wife of Mr. Downes, who originally borrowed money from Strauss. After initially paying a visit to Mr. Downes, who is sickly and poor, Arthur discovers that the man has passed away, meaning that his debt is to be transferred to his wife. As a result, Arthur must return to their farm in order to collect from Mrs. Downes instead. However, at this point in the game, the player will be in Rhodes after having escaped from Valentine.
Instead of wasting time trying to remember where the farm is, Arthur should wait until Bill wants to talk to him in the camp near Rhodes. Bill will suggest returning to Valentine to rob the bank there. Before you set out, Herr Strauss will inform you of the death of Mr. Downes and ask you to collect from his newly widowed wife.
Collecting the debt is unmissable, as it is an objective in the quest. After the bank has been robbed, Arthur, Bill, Karen, and Lenny will all escape on horseback. After losing the law, you’ll split up and your new quest marker will be at the Downes farm.
