Super Smash Bros. Ultimate boasts a ridiculously large selection of characters from all of gaming history, even characters not made by Nintendo. There are modern icons such as Bayonetta and even the stars of Castlevania, but the oldest classic non-Nintendo character is the venerable Pac-Man. But how do you unlock Smash Ultimate Pac-Man, for play in both regular matches and the World of Light campaign? We’ll show you what to do.
Who is Pac-Man?
You’re kidding, aren’t you? Granted, he’s not as popular as Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, or, er, Corrin, but he predates all of Nintendo’s games and was the earliest video game icon, first appearing in 1980. In Smash Bros he made his first appearance in the last game, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS, and returns in Ultimate. He’s currently ranked way down in the E Tier, so he’s not one of the best characters to play. Nevertheless, if you’re being a completionist you’ll need him.
How to Get Smash Ultimate Pac-Man
As usual with Smash Ultimate, Pac-Man can be unlocked in three ways. The easiest way is to play Classic Mode in any difficulty. Either keep clearing it with Kirby, or play through as either Jigglypuff or Ness to have Pac-Man challenge you. Beat him to unlock him. Alternatively, simply play through Versus mode matches, possibly as Chrom. Pac-Man will be the 49th character you unlock.
How to Unlock Smash Ultimate Pac-Man in World of Light
However, neither of these ways will unlock Pac-Man for play in the World of Light single-player campaign, so to do that you’ll need to head in there. He’s in the regular World of Light, fairly early on in the campaign, on the Marth route. He should be simple to find, then once you’ve beaten him you’ll have access to Puck Man in both World of Light and the regular game.
