The Resident Evil 2 Heart Key location is the last piece of information you’ll need to say goodbye to the RPD as Claire. There are several Heart Key doors throughout the RPD in Resident Evil 2 Remake, and the items behind them are essential to completing the game. Again, just like with the other keys, you’ll see at least one red Heart Key door fairly early on in the game, but you won’t be able to enter it until near the end of your time in the police station.
Below we’ll show you where every Heart Key door is in Resident Evil 2 remake as well as how to get your hands on the key itself.
Where is the Heart Key location in Resident Evil 2 remake?
In the RE2 remake, the Heart Key is exclusive to Claire’s scenarios. Only she has access to the location where the key is hidden, and as such she actually gets to see a bit more of the RPD than Leon does.
In the original Resident Evil 2, the Heart Key was available for both characters, but it was in different locations for each of them. In Leon’s story, you found the Heart Key in the small side room in the West Office on the first floor west wing of the RPD. Claire would discover it on Chief Iron’s Office right after meeting with Sherry in the Taxidermy Display Room.
For both characters, the only door the Heart Key unlocked was the door in the East Office that led to the corridor containing the Nightwatchman’s Room and the stairs to the basement.
In the remake, the Heart Key is located near where Claire found it in the original. Once you activate the elevator to the Chief’s Office in the basement, you can head up there. You’ll notice that two doors lead out of the Chief’s Office. One is a Heart Key door while the other leads you back to the Private Collection Room. Across from the power panel puzzle, you’ll find a small corridor that winds right. At the end of the hall, you’ll see the Relief. Examine the item and look at the back of it. You’ll find the Heart Key embedded in the back.
Where are the Heart Key door locations in Resident Evil 2 remake?
There are three Heart Key doors in Resident Evil 2 remake, and here are their locations:
- The door to exit the Chief’s Office and enter the second floor east wing north corridor.
- The north-facing door of the Records Room in the first floor west wing.
- The Interrogation Room door that can be accessed by taking the stairs near the Chief’s Office down to the first floor.
Out of the three doors, one of them doesn’t have to be unlocked to beat the game. You don’t actually have to visit the Interrogation Room to leave the RPD. However, it does contain some items that will make your life easier. On a first run scenario you’ll be able to grab the Ornate Box from here, and on a second run, you can grab a Portable Safe. Both of these items will help you to get access to weapons, weapon parts, or side packs to expand your storage. Additionally, the Interrogation Room contains the file which tells you the combo for the safe in the Waiting Room.
The door to exit the Chief’s Office obviously must be unlocked. Otherwise, there’s no way for you to get back into the RPD and collect the Electric Parts to open the door in the Private Collection Room and get the Parking Pass.
As part of the process to get one of the Electric Parts, you have to stop in the Records Room and get the tool (jack handle) so that you can move the bookcases in the library to gain access to the Clock Tower. There are no other routes available, so it’s just not an optional stop.
