Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Gun Nerfs | Nerfed weapons
How did the Destiny 2 Season of Opulence gun nerfs issue happen? Bungie uploaded a blog post on May 16 that detailed some “sandbox changes” that will be a part of this update.
As it turns out, a number of weapons will be adjusted to allow Destiny 2 to “remain a challenge.” The blog post goes on to list what guns will be changed, and what alterations will be made. In total, four weapons have been tweaked, but it’s two in particular that have left fans in an uproar.
Whisper of the Worm, which is one of the best guns in the game, will have its ammo regeneration ability removed. Bungie’s explanation lies with the fact that other guns are rendered obsolete by this ability. Instead, Whisper of the Worm will now use Heavy ammo from your other guns if you run out of ammo for it.
Sleeper Simulant, meanwhile, will see its bounced shot damage reduced even further than before. This had been scaled back with some important enemies in the past, but Bungie is completely nerfing for all foes now. Bungie says this allows for a better weapon “balance”, and reduces the difference in damage you can stack up from the bounced shot ability.
Destiny 2 Season of Opulence Gun Nerfs | Fan reaction
As you can imagine, reaction to the Destiny 2 Season of Opulence gun nerfs has been met by fury. Players have taken to the game’s sub-Reddit to voice their annoyance, while others have made their thoughts clear in replying to this Destiny 2tweet.
Fans have called for Bungie to stop nerfing the game’s best guns and, instead, buff less-powerful ones so that the latter gets used more often. That’s more difficult than simply scaling other weapons back though, so Bungie went with the simpler option.
It remains to be seen if Bungie will reverse this announcement down the line. For now, expect your weapons to be nerfed when the update rolls out with a new raid on June 4.
