FFXIV Gunbreaker Unlock | How to get the Final Fantasy 14 Shadowbringers Gunbreaker class

The new expansion for Final Fantasy 14, Shadowbringers, is out of early access now, and out of the various new features being added to the game, perhaps the most exciting is the inclusion of two new classes to play. We’ve already gone through the new Dancer class and how to unlock it in detail, now we’ll focus our attention on getting you the second new class, Gunbreaker, in our FFXIV Gunbreaker unlock guide. Let’s have a look, including a brief outline of the Gunbreaker’s abilities.

In order to unlock the Gunbreaker class and use it in Final Fantasy 14, apart from having the new Shadowbringers expansion you’ll also first need to complete the special unlock quest. Just like unlocking the Dancer, you’ll need to have a Disciple of War or a Disciple of Magic at Level 60 or better in order to start the quest, so make sure you do. However, the quest is in a different location to the Dancer’s, as for the Gunbreaker you’ll have to head to New Gridania in The Black Shroud, to the north of Eorzea.

Once there, head to coordinates  X 11.5 and Y 11.9, where an NPC called Gods’ Quiver Bow will offer you the “Makings of a Gunbreaker” quest. Accept it and follow the markers to the East Shroud, in the Bramble Patch. You’ll get a short fight with an easy enemy, then talk to Radovan the swordsman. Keep talking until he offers you the Gunbreaker class. Equip the Gunblade to change to this class immediately.

What is the Gunbreaker class?

Gunbreaker is the new Tank job for Final Fantasy 14. It uses melee sword attacks and close-range gunfire, all from the Gunblade. This class is a Disciple of War and wears plate armor. You can turn enmity on or off with your Royal Guard tank stance, and from there you should be focusing on DPS combos. Completing one of these will get you a cartridge which you can fire as a single explosive shell, to use on a single target or area. Otherwise, Gunbreaker generally has everything you would expect from a Tank class, although bear in mind Tanks have been reworked in Shadowbringers.
