Ghostbusters remastered release date

When is the Ghostbusters Remastered release date?

Despite being a major franchise, that’s over 35 years old at this point, Ghostbusters has had shockingly few games made about it. There’s the occasional tie-in such as the recent Planet Coaster DLC crossover, and a few interesting titles here and there such as the Pokemon Go-style Ghostbusters World for mobiles, but big-budget story-based Ghostbusters games? There’s only really one. Ghostbusters: The Videogame Remastered was announced as coming this year, and we now know the exact Ghostbusters Remastered release date too.

We’ve got the official Ghostbusters: The Videogame release date below, which is just a couple of months away, and still in time for the movie’s 35th anniversary. We’ll also let you know what platforms you can play this remaster on, and other potential information such as how much it will cost, and what will be included in the remaster. We’ll also tell you why this re-release is worth getting excited about, if you’re a Ghostbusters fan. Let’s have a look.

When is the Ghostbusters Remastered release date?

The remastered version of Ghostbusters: The Videogame was announced in May this year, just prior to E3, but despite getting an announcement trailer there was no official release date revealed. The only clue was that the remaster would arrive sometime this year. At last, we now know the exact release date, and it’s not too far. Ghostbusters: The Videogame Remastered has a release date of October 4, just in time for Halloween. But where can you play it?

What platforms are getting Ghostbusters: The Videogame Remastered?

When Ghostbusters: The Videogame Remastered comes out on October 4, you’ll be able to buy it on all major platforms. That’s PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. However, despite the original release of Ghostbusters: The Videogame being on Steam, the Remastered version will only be available on PC digitally through the Epic Games Store. The Steam version was removed from the store back in 2017, either because publisher Atari had lost the rights, or possibly because the remaster was being planned at that time. All console versions will be available physically in stores, although in the US it will be exclusive to GameStop. Pre-orders for the digital versions should be available on all platforms sometime today.

What is included in the remastered edition?

At the moment, there has not been any clear indication what special features will actually be included in the Ghostbusters remaster, other than the game itself. The only change that has been announced in the game’s press release is that the graphics will be improved, and brought up to current-day standards with new HD resolutions. Whether there will be any special new features, or whether even the game’s multiplayer will be included, has not been announced. The multiplayer wasn’t in the PC version, so that would be a fairly big deal for that release.

How much will it cost?

Ghostbusters Stay Puft

Despite the promise in a press release that pre-orders for Ghostbusters: The Videogame Remastered would go live today, the only place that currently has the game available to pre-order is GameStop. The retailer currently has the game at $29.99, which seems a reason price for a re-release. Expect other stores to carry similar price tags.

Why is this such a big deal?

Ghostbusters: The Videogame is of vital importance to Ghostbusters fans, as it’s essentially the actual Ghostbusters 3. It contains the full cast of the movies—Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Harold Ramis, his last appearance as Egon Spengler before the actor died—with a script written by Aykroyd and Ramis, who wrote both movies. The game acts a sequel to the events of both movies, and answers some of the unanswered questions from the first movie. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan and have never played it, you’ll need to pick up Remastered in October.
