As with most pre-launch events, they simply don’t go as smoothly as planned and this seems to be the case with the Modern Warfare alpha event. When trying to join a friend’s lobby, some players are getting hit with a “this player does not have a valid game session to join” error message along with a “status: goalpost” message. Let’s take a look at what is going on with the Modern Warfare valid game session error.
Modern Warfare Valid Game Session Error | Can’t join friend’s lobbies
In addition to an online services error, players trying to enjoy the Modern Warfare alpha event are having a hard time today. A new error message has been discovered when a player tries to play a match with a friend. The error is stating that your friend doesn’t have a valid game session to join. While this technically could be the case if your friend isn’t in the lobby, for the majority of players this message is the result of an error.

The reason that you can’t join a friend’s lobby seems to be unknown to the community and developers haven’t made any public statement about the error at the time of writing. However, since this is an alpha, there is no doubt that Infinity Ward is monitoring things closely and are likely already aware of the issue. Unfortunately, in the meantime, this means that you probably won’t be able to play Modern Warfare with a friend for now.
It seems that the Modern Warfare valid game session error has to do with server issues, which are causing some other online errors as well. For now, the best thing to do is play a different game while you wait for developers to get a fix ready.
