As is the case with most raids, Destiny 2‘s Garden of Salvation added a powerful new exotic called Divinity. This trace rifle adds a debuff that boosts the damage dealt by a players team to to anyone it hits. However, it also added something more unfortunate: The new Destiny 2 Divinity exotic can crash a players game.
Is Destiny 2′s new Divinity exotic crashing peoples games?
To put it simply, yes, Destiny 2‘s new Divinity exotic trace rifle is crashing people’s games. However, the more unfortunate part is that it’s not just crashing the game of whoever is wielding it. According to reports from the Destiny 2 subreddit, Divinity has a chance to crash the game of both the player who is wielding it or the players around them.

The more sinister side of this bug is that some players have reportedly been using to purposely crash other peoples games in the Crucible. While it is a gamble, since it can crash the game of whoever is using it, the effect seems consistent enough that it’s started an uproar over on the game’s subreddit.
Destiny 2 Divinity Crash Bug | How to avoid crashing
Trying to avoid getting a crash with Divinity in Destiny 2 is tricky. As some have reported on Reddit, all it takes for the bug to trigger is to simply shoot at another person. More importantly, since the bug can crash an opponent’s game, just because it didn’t crash your game doesn’t mean it didn’t crash your opponents game either. The only indication that the latter happened is that opponent suddenly getting disconnected.
Additionally, for those who own the game on multiple systems, simply switching to another platform won’t address the issue either. Divinity causes games to crash regardless if a player is on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.
Right now, most players who have encountered the bug or have been researching it recommend simply not using Divinity in Destiny 2‘s PvP mode. Luckily, it seems that the bug has not yet been reported as happening on the PvE side of things. So, if you have Divinity, you can still use it there.
At this point, it looks like you’ll just have to wait for Bungie to fix the bug. Happily, the studio is already aware of the issue with Divinity, with a community representative having stated on Reddit that it’s investigating the bug. In the meantime, it might be best to just use one of the other new exotics (such as the Polaris Lance scout rifle) that have been added to Destiny 2.
