With each Destiny 2 expansion, Bungie usually implements some sort of paid level boost, allowing you to instantly reach the power level “soft cap” needed to participate in most end-game content. The Destiny 2: Shadowkeep power boost arrived quite quickly after the expansion launched, showing up on players’ character select screens just three weeks later. This Destiny 2 character power boost guide will cover the power boost price and what you need to do in order to access it.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeep | Character power boost unlock and price
For players new to Destiny 2 or for those making new characters, the character power boost allows for the option to instantly access end-game content. The boost’s convenience comes at a cost, however. The power boost introduced in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep will set you back 2,000 Silver — $20 worth of in-game currency. The character boost appears to the right of a sub-900-power character on the character select screen, but it won’t show up unless you’ve completed the New Light intro mission with that character. Once you’ve made it to the Tower, head back out to the character select screen, and you should see the boost icon.

It’s worth noting that the grind to get to 900 power in Shadowkeep doesn’t take too long. Getting to that point from the base 750 power all Guardians start at takes only about 6-10 hours. That may seem like quite a bit of time, but it pales in comparison to the time it takes to grind to Shadowkeep’s 950 power cap. Plus, in the grand scheme of things, 6-10 hours is a relatively small amount of time to spend on a massive MMO like Destiny 2.
Interestingly, the Destiny 2 character power boost appears to prevent you from purchasing it if you already have a character above 900 of the same class. This is because, rather than paying $20, you can simply transfer gear over to the new character from the 900-power one to bring it up to the cap. This also works to some extent with characters of different classes, as you can transfer over high-level weapons, which will make the path to 900 much quicker.
