Destiny 2′s newest season, Season of the Dawn, couldn’t have been more perfectly timed when it comes to one of the Destiny series’ long-running seasonal events. Destiny 2′s winter holiday festival, The Dawning, brings many on-theme cosmetic items to the game and often a few temporary new activities. When does this year’s Dawning begin? We’ve gathered everything known about Destiny 2 The Dawning 2019, including the Christmas-like event’s start date and time, in this guide.
Destiny 2: Season of Dawn | When does The Dawning 2019 start?
In the past, The Dawning has usually begun in mid-December, and The Dawning 2019 is no different. As Bungie revealed in the Season of Dawn roadmap, this year’s Dawning event starts on Tuesday, December 17, one week after Season of Dawn launches on December 10. While Bungie did not say so specifically, The Dawning will likely begin at the regular Destiny 2 weekly reset time.

Bungie has not yet revealed any details about the rewards or activities of this year’s Dawning, but players should expect plenty of new and returning Eververse items. Of course, whereas past Dawning armor sets were earned through in-game activities, Destiny 2: Shadowkeep’s “armor 2.0” system turned old Dawning armor into universal Eververse ornaments. This most likely means that, like this year’s Festival of the Lost armor, The Dawning 2019 armor will simply be purchasable from the Eververse store. We can see a small preview of possible Dawning 2019 armor, a new Sparrow, and the returning Dawning Cheer Sparrow in the roadmap image below.
In addition to cosmetics, there will no doubt be some kind of limited-time reward chase. Last year’s Dawning featured Eva Levante’s holiday oven, where players could follow special Dawning recipes to earn rewards. It’s unknown if this exact mechanic will make a return in 2019, but there will likely be something for players to chase. The Dawning’s snowballs, which debuff enemies and Guardians they hit, appeared during both 2017 and 2018’s Dawning, so they will probably come back this year, as well.
Season of Dawn’s The Dawning event ends on January 14, 2020.
