Where do you get the BFG in Doom Eternal?
It’s presumed that Dr. Samuel Hayden reacquires the BFG-9000 at some point after the events of Doom (2016). Using the technology of that weapon as a base, he develops the BFG-10000 defense station on Phobos that uses a magnification array to enhance the BFG-9000’s already considerable firepower.
During the course of Doom Eternal, the Doom Slayer must reach an ancient city underneath the surface of Mars. He can’t teleport there from the Fortress of Doom, so he decides to blow up a giant chunk of the red planet to dig down to the city.
To blast his way through Mars’s crust, the Slayer heads to the UAC defense outpost on Phobos. There, he uses the BFG-10000 to destroy a huge chunk of the red planet, then he detaches the BFG-9000 from the magnification array and keeps it for himself.
The BFG is the most powerful weapon in Doom Eternal, and as such, has limited uses. Its ammo isn’t restored via chainsawing enemies like most guns. Instead, you have to find it scattered throughout the remaining levels of the game. Additionally, you can only hold two units of BFG ammo at a time.
Despite its limitations, the BFG can be immensely useful, especially against bosses. It’s also great to hold back on using it and save the rounds for Slayer Gates, as the combat in those sections is some of the hardest you’ll find in the game.
