Rocket League PS5

Are there Rocket League PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates?

With the next generation of home consoles looming, plenty of you have been wondering if there will be a Rocket League PS5 release date and/or a Rocket League Xbox One release date. Despite spending a good few years on the market already, Psyonix’s rocket-powered soccar game is still proving popular, with no signs of slowing down. With the switch from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Series X incoming, you’ll be wanting to carry on your progress to the next-gen. Will there be a Rocket League next-gen release? Read on to find out.

Are there Rocket League PS5 and Xbox Series X release dates?

Rocket League PS5

As of writing, Psyonix hasn’t confirmed its plans for either a Rocket League PS5 release date or Rocket League Xbox Series X release date. Despite this, we’d argue that a Rocket League next-gen port could well be on the cards. We’d be surprised if Rocket League doesn’t make its way onto the PS5 and/or Xbox Series X.

A port of Rocket League onto both next-gen platforms is more likely than a sequel being made and released. Back in 2018, Scott Rudi (the then game director) told Gamespot that a sequel is unlikely. Rudi explained that Psyonix sees Rocket League as a game-as-a-service, telling Gamespot that Psyonix wants to “provide a really good experience… for years to come.” Rudi added that Psyonix doesn’t know what it’d do with Rocket League 2 and was instead focussing on expanding Rocket League. Psyonix has “no plans for Rocket League 2.”

Nothing has changed since and Rocket League is still going strong, with no signs of a sequel. It’s far more likely that Psyonix is working on a spruced up port for the next-gen consoles. Unfortunately, as of writing, you cannot share content or progress between different platforms and accounts. This is something that will need to be looked at for a potential PS5 and Xbox Series X port.

Given how the PS5 and Xbox Series X are both backwards compatible with the PS4 and Xbox One, respectively, however, don’t be surprised if the game never gets an updated port on the next-gen platforms. We’ll have to wait and see what Psyonix has up its sleeve for the soccar game.
