Despite the fact that its revered sequel is still out and getting new content on a regular basis, the Mortal Kombat X 1.15 update patch notes have revealed that NetherRealm is not truly done with the old 2015 fighting game. This may not be some huge overhaul that touches all the characters and adds new content, but it does add a few things for people who are still playing this revered fighter. Just don’t expect any balance changes as that team is busy balancing MK11.
Mortal Kombat X 1.15 Update Patch Notes | Free skin unlocks
This game originally had players link their WB Play accounts to unlock a few skins in the game (as well as some other cosmetics). Now, the game no longer requires that account link, as the in-game patch notes note. The option isn’t even in the game anymore. The prompt used to be in the bottom left of the screen. Nothing is there now.
Essentially, this likely means that players will just have these skins and other cosmetics now. There were quite a few skins and since the game isn’t being actively played, it is a good way to future proof the title. Those servers won’t be online forever and doing this allows the game to not lock players out.
Mortal Kombat X 1.15 Update Patch Notes | New ad
This is small but the game now has a big ad for Mortal Kombat 11 at the top. You can’t miss it. Pressing the right button (which used to bring up the WB Play stuff) now opens the store and lets you buy MK11 Aftermath or watch a trailer.
It’s a little odd to update an old game with a small update like this as it could potentially get people’s hopes up for a grand resurgence. But that does not appear to be the case.
