Xbox Series X and S | Is a 1TB expansion card the biggest?

What is the biggest Xbox Series X and S expansion card? While both the Xbox Series X and Series S offer up next-gen gaming at a seemingly affordable price, neither console is launching with enough storage space for modern gaming needs. Like it or lump it, you will more-than-likely need to purchase an Xbox Series X 1TB expansion card, at least.

Read on to find out is there a bigger than 1TB expansion card for Xbox Series X and S and, if so, when it should be available.

Is a 1TB expansion card the most you can buy?

As of writing, you can only get hold of a 1TB SSD expansion card for your Xbox Series X and Series S, although a release date for these storage expansion cards has yet to be revealed outside of a general “holiday 2020.”

For now, at least, 1TB is the largest (and only) size SSD storage expansion you can buy for the Series X and S. This doesn’t mean, however, that bigger expansion cards won’t be available in the future. Given the size of modern games when it comes to hard-drive space, we certainly hope that bigger expansion cards are in the works over at Microsoft HQ.

It certainly seems like larger Xbox Series X and S expansion cards are on the way. Austin Evans, on YouTube channel “This Is” (Xbox Series S vs Series X video, around 6:35 in), explained that he has been “speaking with the Xbox guys.” Austin explains how Microsoft is open to larger storage expansion cards in the future. We could see 2TB and more available to purchase down the line. The expansion card slot on both Series X and Series S should theoretically work with any size SSD.

If a Reddit rumor is to be believed, the official Xbox Seagate 1TB SSD expansion card will set you back $219.99 (around £170 in the U.K.) We’ll have to wait and see exactly how much it costs when it, hopefully, releases later this year.
