The NieR franchise can be a little difficult to follow. It all started with Drakengard, a game with somewhat similar action gameplay. From there, the original NieR game was released, and that game was followed by Nier: Automata, a much more well-known game in the West.

While Nier did get a Western release, it was a little different in Japan. Two versions of the game were launched: Nier Gestalt for the Xbox 360 and Nier Replicant for the PS3. The two games were largely the same, but one of the characters had different ages depending on which version you got. Nier Replicant was also exclusive to Japan.
