Doom Eternal The Ancient Gods is also a standalone game on PS4 in addition to being a DLC add-on for Doom Eternal. The standalone is $20, which is the same price as the add-on. The season passes are also the same price — $30 — whether or not you buy it separately from the game. Knowing that you can also jump right into the DLC (which you can read more about here) would naturally make sense for something that is completely standalone. Id hasn’t discussed if the second episode coming at a later unknown date will also be a standalone or if it will at least require the first episode.

However, the first episode is currently slightly cheaper for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, coming it at $18. Just be sure to grab the right one if you own the game as it is two different listings. Oddly, the season pass isn’t cheaper if you’re a XGPU subscriber.

Weirdly enough, it does not currently seem like The Ancient Gods is a standalone experience on Steam. Searching for the DLC brings up one page and it has the little “DLC” banner on it. Searching for other titles that were simultaneously standalone and an add-on to a bigger game is a different story (like, for example, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag: Freedom Cry).

The Bethesda store might be a different story but it is hard to tell. This listing appears to be a standalone game, but it isn’t 100% clear as it doesn’t say either way. There is no separate game page for it on the Bethesda launcher, which points to it maybe not being a standalone experience. It might be worth waiting for some clarification.
