Doom 3 Oculus Quest | Is it coming to PC?

Bethesda announced that Doom 3: VR Edition would be coming to PSVR on March 29, 2021. The divisive shooter from 2004 would finally be stepping into a new realm. But this reveal made it easy to wonder if there will be a Doom 3 Oculus Quest or other PC version as well.

Is Doom 3 coming to the Oculus Quest or PC?

Doom 3: VR Edition has not been announced for PC platforms like the Oculus Quest and HTC Vive. As of now, the game is currently a PSVR exclusive and will only be on Sony’s headset for now.

However, it is very unlikely this will always be the case for a few different reasons. Doom VFR and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, Bethesda’s last two ventures into VR, released on PSVR and the HTC Vive on the same day. Alas, there was never an Oculus port of the two games, but they didn’t remain on one headset or prioritize one over the other.

Neither Bethesda nor Sony mention exclusivity in the official PlayStation Blog post on the subject either. There isn’t a Steam page for the title yet, but it wouldn’t be too outlandish for it to come out on PC on the same day or within the same window. VR games tend to go back and forth between headsets since there aren’t many total headsets out there, making it more difficult to make a profit than a “regular” game on “regular” platforms.

Bethesda also usually doesn’t release exclusive titles either, much less console exclusives. Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo may be coming to PS5 but they are also coming to PC and, given Microsoft’s recent purchase of Bethesda, those games will also probably come to the Xbox Series X/S sometime in the future. Bethesda’s history with multiplatform releases, Sony’s refusal to mention exclusivity, and the small pool of VR headsets all mean it is almost inevitable that Doom 3: VR Edition will see life on other VR platforms in the future. But given how Bethesda doesn’t work with Oculus, it might not hit the Quest or regular Oculus headset.
