Is Nintendo doing anything for the N64 and GBA anniversaries?

Nintendo has been making games for decades, though video games are a relatively recent addition to the company’s lineup. However, today, June 23, 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the groundbreaking Nintendo 64. What’s more, this year also marks the 20th anniversary of the lovable, full-color Game Boy Advance. And if you ask us, it’s high time for celebration. But what does Nintendo have planned?

Well, from what we’ve heard, nothing. It seems as if Nintendo has no plans for the N64 or GBA anniversaries. In fact, the company didn’t mention any plans during its E3 2021 presentation, either. If Nintendo has some form of celebration in store, it’s remaining quiet about it.

Of course, this may not really come as any surprise. There’s no obligation for Big N to celebrate a product it first launched 20 or 25 years ago. Instead, we as fans hope for celebrations because these are anniversaries we’d like to celebrate.

In a perfect world, perhaps we’d get a Nintendo 64 Classic. The 64-bit console is easily Nintendo’s most funky, and a small-scale version with playable games would be one of the hottest items on the market. Perhaps a reveal closer to the holiday season is in order?

And let’s not forget the little Game Boy Advance, the company’s first entirely new portable after the original Game Boy. While it may not have been as groundbreaking as the N64, it was a fantastic little machine in its own right. Given that Nintendo still produces a portable console, why not celebrate the anniversary with a few GBA releases on the Switch eShop? If nothing else, Nintendo could at least give us more N64 Virtual Console games on Switch.

Whatever the reason may be, it seems Nintendo doesn’t have special plans for the N64 or GBA anniversaries. At the very least, if celebrations are planned, Nintendo is staying quiet. Either way, fans would be thrilled to help the company celebrate its milestone achievements in video game history.
