Wolverine crossover

Will Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Wolverine crossover?

Huge news for Marvel fans today, as Insomniac Games announced two new comic-book titles. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will release in 2023 for PS5, and as well as that, a Wolverine game is in development. Very little is known about the two titles as they’ve only just got their first trailers, but comic-book fans love a crossover. Therefore, we’ve got the answer to a pressing question: will Insomniac’s Spider-Man and Wolverine crossover?

Is there going to be a Spider-Man and Wolverine crossover?

Wolverine crossover

At the moment, it’s hard to determine whether we’ll get a Spider-Man and Wolverine crossover. Since both games are in development at Insomniac Games, it’s certainly possible that they’ll join forces at some point. However, there are some factors to consider that could make a team-up difficult.

The first consideration is the games’ respective release dates. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is locked in for 2023, whereas Wolverine doesn’t have a window yet. However, anything earlier than 2025 is unlikely. There’s no way that Insomniac would want to spoil the Wolverine game by introducing him in Spider-Man 2. Equally, they wouldn’t want to overshadow Wolverine’s solo adventure by bringing in Spider-Man As such, if they were to crossover, it wouldn’t be until after Wolverine’s first game.

Another problem is the different age ratings the games might have. Insomniac’s Spider-Man games are pretty safe in terms of violence, both earning T certificates. Based on the Wolverine trailer, with Logan’s bloodied post-fight fists, that game looks a lot more in M territory. Wolverine is a character famed for his gruesome fights and gory kills, and Insomniac will likely keep that reputation going. This creates a problem for a crossover, as they wouldn’t want Spider-Man in an M-rated game, and vice versa.

As such, it’s probably best to assume that Spider-Man and Wolverine won’t crossover. This is also the official line from PlayStation, who have labelled Wolverine “a standalone game,” meaning it’s unlikely to fit in with Spider-Man.
