How to make TikTok 6-minute videos on iPhone and Android

TikTok videos could only be 15 seconds long, to begin with, but the app has steadily been increasing the max upload length over time. TikTokers can now record and share up to three minutes of footage as standard, but, in that case, how are some users doubling that length? Android and iPhone (iOS) owners are seeing more and more TikTok 6-minute videos on the popular application. So, here’s the need-to-know info on creating TikToks that are six mins long.

TikTok: How do people make 6-minute long TikToks? (2021)

TikTok 6-minute videos

6-minute TikTok videos are available to select users as part of a very limited rollout, all signs suggest. A vast majority of TikTokers can still only upload videos that are three minutes long in 2021.

Seemingly, TikTok is experimenting with doubling its maximum upload length to six minutes. Videos of this length are cropping up on the social media app and causing some confusion amongst the userbase. Since TikTok has already increased the max upload time in the past, it isn’t too surprising that it’s now experimenting with 6-minute vids  — especially accounting for the application’s continuing success.

It’s pretty common to see social media brands roll out new features slowly to select users over time, before eventually going public. One notable example is Twitter doubling its character limit; originally, Twitter would limit tweets to 140 characters, before doubling the limit to 280. Rather than instantly increasing the limit for everybody, the app would gradually roll the change out and monitor users’ responses over time.

If TikTok is taking user sentiment into account, it’s possible that 6-minute TikTok videos might never receive a full public launch. Part of the app’s appeal is bouncing between multiple short videos, rather than engaging with longer-form content. If a majority of users don’t like the change as it becomes more widespread, TikTok could pull the experiment.

In other news, FIFA 2022 is shaping up nicely. Apple just came out with its iPhone 13 range, though not all early adopters are happy; camera and display issues are hampering some new handsets at launch.
