Battlefield 2042 servers are down as players flock to play it. As is yearly tradition, EA has once again underestimated demand, and so players are having connection errors. While this isn’t surprising, we’ll go into detail on why the BF2042 servers are having issues and and how to check server status below.
Are the Battlefield 2042 servers down?
The Battlefield 2042 servers are down because of high demand. When a game this popular launches, it takes a while to scale up the number of servers needed, and EA is notorious for this sort of thing. The best way to fix this is to just be patient, stop trying to connect for a while, and keep an eye on social media. Then, once people start getting in, give it another shot (but and don’t forget to check out the excellent Portal mode). Players can check the Battlefield 2042 server status by visiting the official Twitter account and through a service like Down Detector.
However, on the off chance that the issue is on the player’s end instead of the server, here are a few fixes:
Reset everything
If connection issues persist, just reset everything. First, players should power cycle their modem, router, console, or computer. Sometimes that’s all it takes to get things working properly again.
Make sure the servers aren’t blocked by a firewall or router.
Sometimes routers will block the ports needed to play the game. The ports that need to be open are:
- PC:
- TCP: 5222, 9988, 17502, 20000-20100, 22990, 42127
- UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300
- PS4/PS5
- TCP: 1935, 3478-3480
- UDP: 3074, 3478-3479, 3659, 14000-14016
- Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S
- TCP: 3074
- UDP: 88, 500, 3074, 3544, 4500
Most of the time, if UPnP is activated on a router, it’ll take care of this automatically. However, those who can’t turn on UPnP can forward the ports above to ensure BF2042 can properly connect to its servers.
Validate or reinstall the game
Sometimes files get corrupted during a game install. To fix this, choose Battlefield 2042 on Origin, right-click on the game, select “Repair.” This will validate the files and redownload and replace any that are corrupt.
