Battlefield 2042 was released last month with an overwhelmingly negative response. Lack of content, poor gameplay, and boring maps have all been cited as reasons fans have been dropping the game. Unfortunately, the release date of Battlefield 2042 season one, which might have alleviated some of these concerns, seems to still be a ways off. Here’s when players can expect the start date for the first season.
What is the Battlefield 2042 season 1 start date?
If data miners are correct, Battlefield 2042 season 1 won’t start until March 2022. There are 12 weeks worth of preseason missions that have been found in the client, which seems to indicate that there are 12 weeks leading up to the first seasons kicking off. It’s possible that some of these might be backups in case of a delay. However, given how poorly the launch of BF2042 has gone, we wouldn’t be surprised if we do have a three-month wait until the first season release date.
Battlefield 2042 has been the most disappointing of the major FPS launches in a year of disappointing FPS launches. Both Halo Infinite and Call of Duty: Vanguard have faced criticism, but BF2042 is the only one that has gotten almost no positive feedback outside of the separate Battlefield Portal mode. The consensus is that the game is a significant step back for the franchise that feels cobbled together. The elimination of classes in favor of named specialists has also been panned as a decision that goes against Battlefield’s core concepts.
Unfortunately, there’s not much content coming with BF2042’s first season from what’s been discovered so far. One new map will premiere called Exposure. It will center around a Canadian-US research facility in British Columbia which a landslide has damaged. It sounds like it might be a bit more focused than the sprawling maps we got with the base game. Additionally, no new Portal content has been revealed, which is troubling since that’s the one aspect of the game fans have praised.
