Battlefield 2042 ‘Not Set’

How To Fix the Battlefield 2042 ‘Not Set’ Bug Text

Those players who prefer to switch up the controller layout and not use the default settings in Battlefield 2042 may have noticed a “Not Set” bug popping up in the main menu. This can make finding a match very tricky. This appears to have started when the Season 1: Zero Hour update went live and impacts users on PC (who are using a controller), PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Here is how to fix the Battlefield 2042 “Not Set” bug text error.

To fix the “Not Set” text error on Battlefield 2042 users can:

  1. Select Controller in your options menu.
  2. Choose “Controller Schemes”
  3. Scroll down to the “Controls” option.
  4. Switch modes from “Default” to “Custom”.
  5. The diagram on the right will change to the correct controls.
  6. The “Not Set” bug will now be fixed.

Alternatively, you can change your “Buttons” option to custom and map each button individually.

Though it says “Not Set” all of the menu buttons should still work. This means users can just press the normal button and watch as it functions normally.

A member of the Dice team has confirmed that the issue is “set to be resolved in a future update.” When this “future update” will be rolled out is unknown, however, but hopefully it’s soon.

By using the steps listed above, users should be able to reset the controls back to normal and successfully navigate the BF2042 menus. Here’s hoping it doesn’t frustrate users too much, as it would be a shame to see them resort to just turning off the game when there’s an easy fix available.
