Minecraft: How to breed parrots

Minecraft has a vast amount of animals in its world, and parrots are some of the rarest. They’re mostly found in jungles but spawn at just a 0.2% probability. As such, parrots are very elusive, so you might want to breed parrots to boost their numbers when you do eventually find them. Doing so will let you take parrots with you and keep them for yourself, ensuring you never have to hunt around to find them. Read on to find out how to breed parrots in Minecraft.

Can you breed parrots in Minecraft?

Minecraft breed parrots

You can’t breed parrots in Minecraft.

They’re a purposefully elusive animal in the game, and as such, you aren’t able to artificially increase their population. Since parrots have no newborn models in Minecraft, the mechanics aren’t in place to breed more. As such, even if you bring two parrots together and set up a jungle environment, there’s no chance of a new baby parrot spawning.

While this may be a disappointment to a lot of Minecraft players, the inability to breed parrots makes sense. Since their spawn rate is so low, it’s by design that only the most dedicated players will ever be able to find them. Letting players breed parrots would increase these spawn rates. Therefore, it would negate the hard work done by those looking for their own parrots.

Interestingly, Minecraft is acutely aware of the inability to make more parrots in the game. The achievement you unlock for breeding any two animals is called The Parrots and the Bats. It’s ironic, of course, because neither parrots nor bats can reproduce in the game. It does perhaps hint that parrot breeding will be added in the future, but as of right now it’s impossible. If you want to find a parrot, you’ll have to search the old-fashioned way.
