If you want to mine faster underwater in Minecraft, you need the Aqua Affinity enchantment. This helpful ability lets you mine as quickly underwater as you can on land, which is incredibly helpful with the new content that launched in the 1.20 update. Below, we’ll tell you how to get the Aqua Affinity enchantment in Minecraft (and another useful enchantment that partners with it).
How to get Aqua Affinity enchantment in Minecraft
The easiest way to get the Aqua Affinity enchantment in Minecraft is by using an enchanting table. However, this is an advanced item, so it’ll take a while to get the material needed to craft it from a fresh start.
To make an Enchanting Table, you need the following:
- Book x1
- Diamonds x2
- Obsidian Block x4
To get a book, you can either find one in a village, stronghold, or shipwreck or craft one from this recipe:
- Leather x1
- Paper x3
To get obsidian, you need to mine deep enough to get diamonds, then make a diamond pickaxe. Once you have one of these, make a bucket, then find some lava. Collect the lava in the bucket, take it to some water, and pour it in. Then, mine the resulting block with a diamond pickaxe to get obsidian.
Once you get all the ingredients, put them in a crafting table in the above configuration to craft the enchanting table.
To get Aqua Affinity in Minecraft, you need some lapis lazuli and any kind of helmet. Put the helmet in the enchantment table to see what kind of enchantments you can apply to it. If one of the three isn’t Aqua Affinity, put another helmet in and try again.
Once you have Aqua Affinity, you’ll mine at normal speed underwater, but you might want to go for the ultimate water mining helmet. If so, you’ll want Respiration 3. However, to get this enchantment, you’ll need to use an enchanted book, which can take a while to find.
