It’s already been three years since the second game in the series came out, and fans are clamoring for a Red Dead Redemption 3 release date. The first two games tell a pretty complete story, but there’s potentially a lot of territory to cover in another sequel or prequel. It’s almost certain that RDR3 will eventually be made, and the big question is on which platforms we’ll see it released.
When will we see a Red Dead Redemption 3 release date?
Red Dead Redemption will likely release in 2026 or later, despite comments to the contrary from Take-Two. There were eight years between the first and second game’s launches, and Rockstar seems in no hurry to release new titles. The studio is a far cry from the company that released hit after hit. In the last decade, Rockstar has only managed to release three original titles: Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2. The rest between 2012-2022 were ports of its older titles.
There’s little incentive for Rockstar to even make new games. The company makes the bulk of its revenue through microtransactions in GTA Online.
Grand Theft Auto VI is likely in development, but the success of Grand Theft Auto Online will likely have a negative effect on that game’s campaign. In contrast, Red Dead Online has been much less successful. These days, Take-Two and Rockstar are much more interested in longtail cash flow than making single-player masterpieces, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the studio never returns to the Red Dead series.
If Red Dead Redemption 3 is released, we’d bet on it going one of two ways:
- A prequel to Red Dead Redemption 2.
- A sequel to Red Dead Redemption.
A prequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 could have us playing as either a young Arthur or Hosea during his prime. We could see the formation of the gang and the beginnings of its downfall. We might finally get to see the truth behind what happened during the job in Blackwater that was the beginning of the end for the gang.
Alternatively, we might see what happens to Jack Marston and explore the final conquest of the frontier as the US government solidifies its hold over the Wild West.
RDR 3 Platforms
Since RDR 3 likely won’t be released until the latter part of the decade, we’d bet it’ll be on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also possible that it might premiere on the PS6 and the next Xbox console.
