The release date for House of the Dragon is on the horizon, and we’re learning more and more about the Game of Thrones spin-off. Despite the tsunami of criticism the last few seasons of Game of Thrones received, HBO is running full steam ahead with House of the Dragon, and we can expect it to be one of their most prominent marketing pushes for 2022. read on below to find out when and where viewers can expect it.
House of the Dragon release date rumors
So far, we know that House of the Dragon will air in 2022. It was filmed late last year in Spain and Portugal, but shooting hasn’t been confirmed as completed. Members of the cast were still being selected as late as June 2021, so we’d make a guess that the series is still in production. As such, we expect to see it release later in Q3 or Q4 2022.
How many episodes will it be?
House of the Dragon will consist of 10 episodes for its first season. Further seasons haven’t been confirmed, but seeing as it’s based on the latter half of volume one of George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, we’d expect the series to extend to the (yet to be written) second volume.
The series chronicles the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, which was two hundred years before Game of Thrones. What happens here directly leads to what occurs in Game of Thrones, so fans of the series will be in for a treat.
Where can I watch it?
House of the Dragon will air on HBO (the TV channel) and HBO Max in the US. In New Zealand, SoHo will carry the show on cable, and it will be available for streaming on Neon. Other international broadcasting plans haven’t yet been announced, but we anticipate they will be in the coming months.
