Fans are wondering if Billy is really dead in Stranger Things Season 4 on Netflix. Despite his bullying behavior, he had become a very sympathetic character by the time of his apparent demise at the end of season 3. We’ll take a look at Billy Hargrove’s fate and the chances of him being alive.
Is Billy Hargrove alive in Stranger Things Season 4?
As of Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 7, Billy Hargrove is dead. Max visited his grave when she thought she was going to be killed and read a farewell letter to him. Shortly after, Vecna took his form when he attacked Max and tried to prey on her guilt over Billy’s death. However, he hasn’t reappeared otherwise.
Billy is likely actually dead. Stranger Things doesn’t usually pull any punches when it comes to character deaths. Aside from the main cast, anyone who has died on screen has stayed dead. Additionally, despite Billy sacrificing himself at the end and redeeming himself, there’s no real place for him in the story. It would be contrived if he returned and suddenly became a nice (begrudgingly or otherwise) guy.
Billy was also connected to the Mind Flayer, which means he may have been killed when the gate was shut down at the conclusion of season 3 anyway. The rest of the Mind Flayer’s thralls were rendered inert when their psychic link was severed. So, even though Billy didn’t become part of the Spider Monster, the same fate might have awaited him.
However, we still don’t understand everything about the Upside Down. We’ve seen that objects that Nancy got rid of years before in the real world were still present in her room in the Upside Down. So, there’s a chance that people might continue to exist there even after losing their real-world forms. Perhaps Billy might return for the conclusion of Season 4.
